Staying at the Cabin

Neighbors

Please be respectful of our neighbors. We are relatively close to two houses, both of which have full time occupants. In the evening, noise should be kept to a minimum, especially if the windows are open. The neighbors are good friends of ours.

Power

On the main floor a few too many rooms are on one breaker, including the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Should you lose power just in those rooms it’s likely the breaker tripped. To reset it you must go outside and down to the first level. The breaker panel is on the side of the house, below the front door to the left. The kitchen/main floor breaker is the far left switch, turn it off and back on.

  • Related - If you decide to use the griddle (mmmm, pancakes), there’s an extension cord next to it, run the extension cord to the far side of the dining table to put the griddle on a separate circuit. Otherwise, you won’t be able to make more than a couple of pancakes before tripping the circuit, which is extra annoying in your pajamas.

Should you lose power while staying at the cabin (not uncommon, especially during the winter) you can visit the Southern California Edison website to potentially get updates or news on when it might be restored. In recent years they have done a number of upgrades on the power lines and this is much less likely now.

Trash

We tend to collect trash in the kitchen trash can (white bags) and then take that out to the bin on the front deck (black bags). See Departure Checklist.

Food

Generally we have staples in stock at the house. Should you use the last of something please let us know or replace it if you happen to venture out to the grocery store.

Phone

There is a phone downstairs - feel free to use it as much as needed, all calls within the US are free. In case it’s helpful the number to the house is 909-414-0131

Heat

The house has central heating, controlled by the thermostat on the main floor.

Air Conditioning

The house does not have central air conditioning. There are portable fans and one large portable A/C unit. To use the A/C unit you can carefully move it to the desired location and connect the ventilation hose to a window. We tend to leave the A/C in the upstairs bedroom as that is by far the warmest room in the house.

Fireplace

The fireplace is a Buck stove and we recommend using it as a standard fireplace by leaving the doors open and attaching the provided screen. If you want to use it as a stove, to provide more heat, please let Paul know if you're not familiar with how to operate one.

We tend to start fires with a duraflame-style log followed by the logs sitting outside the front door. Please do NOT use a duraflame-style log with the Buck stove doors closed (this can be a safety hazard if the stove gets too hot as a result)

TV/ROKU

All the TVs in the house have attached ROKU devices. Usually the various apps are logged into our accounts and you're welcome to use them that way. Feel free to add channels/apps as necessary. We do not subscribe to any cable television services.

It's Broken!!

Did the Street Fighter 2 handle snap off? Picture fell off the wall? Sled split in two on an awesome sled run? Well, stuff breaks, don’t worry about it but please let us know so we can make sure to get it replaced or repaired on our next visit. It’s much easier to order things to our San Diego house than to the cabin. Snap a pic of whatever is broken and email/text Paul.
